February 21, 2023 (MLN): Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Karachi.

In a letter to various authorities, including the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Corps Commander, DG Rangers, IG Sindh, and the Chief Minister Sindh, KCCI highlighted the recent terrorist attack on the Karachi Police Office (KPO) located on the main Shahrah e Faisal during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has further tarnished the city's image.

The KCCI uttered condolences for the martyrs of the KPO incident and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

However, it noted that it had been cautioning about such threats for some time, but unfortunately, no concrete steps were taken.

The letter stated that the poor law-and-order situation had triggered extreme anxiety among the business and industrial community, raising doubts about continuing their operations in the city.

To address these concerns, the KCCI requested a joint meeting at the earliest possible time within the week at the Chamber or any five-star hotel in the red zone.

The presence of honorable CM along with High-ups of Law Enforcing Agencies at the proposed joint meeting would also help in telling the world that the law-and-order situation was not as bad as it was being portrayed by anti-state elements.

The KCCI also sought advice on how to safely organize its My Karachi Exhibition scheduled to take place on March 3, 4 & 5, 2023, at the Expo Center, despite the current security threats.

The My Karachi Exhibition has been held annually since 2004 to portray Karachi as a peaceful city, attracting around 800,000 visitors, including high-profile lawmakers, bureaucrats, diplomats, and foreign delegates. The KCCI acknowledged the challenges in holding the event in the current situation but expressed eagerness to hold it at any cost.

The KCCI's letter has sparked concerns about Karachi's law-and-order situation and the impact on the business and industrial community.

This proposed joint meeting is expected to address these concerns and devise strategies to improve the city's image and safely stage the My Karachi Exhibition.
