November 01, 2024 (MLN): The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report revealed housing and energy index continue to remain the only category where inflation is stubbornly sticky.
After a monthly jump of 1.6%, housing and energy costs are up 19.2% over the prior year. They accounted for 51.6% of the total yearly price gain in September.
Overall, Pakistan’s inflation quickened for the first time in four months, with consumer prices rising by 7.2% from last year.
Here are the contributions to CPI, in percentage points, year over year:
Meanwhile, food costs that drove the headline inflation to record levels last year remain in control. Prices rose 0.9% from last year.
Moreover, transport costs fell 6.1% over the prior year as a decline in global prices and a stable exchange rate allowed the government to slash fuel prices.
