Govt plans strategy to cut electricity tariffs: PM

March 24, 2025 (MLN): To reduce electricity tariffs, a comprehensive and effective strategy package is being prepared and will be announced soon, said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review matters related to the Power Division, the Prime Minister emphasized that reforms in the power sector will help lower electricity prices and provide relief to the public.

He directed authorities to address public concerns regarding the solarization policy with clear facts and figures, reaffirming that there has been no change in the government's stance and priorities on solar energy, according to the press release.

PM Shehbaz also instructed officials to expedite the privatization process of power distribution companies and to resolve any legal and administrative issues hindering the privatization of generation companies.

Additionally, he urged the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division to enhance coordination in developing a comprehensive energy sector strategy.
