April 15, 2025 (MLN): Contrary to expectations, the federal government kept fuel prices unchanged over the next fortnight.

Accordingly, fuel prices will stay the same: petrol will be Rs254.63 per litre, and high-speed diesel will be Rs258.64 per litre.

During today's federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the benefit of falling international prices would not be passed on to the public, as the government plans to use the savings for critical national infrastructure projects.

The Prime Minister emphasised that these funds would be directed toward upgrading the N-25 highway in Balochistan. The road will be transformed into a dual carriageway built to motorway standards.

Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to constructing the M-6 and M-9 motorways.

He also noted that part of the savings would support the completion of Phase II of the Kachhi Canal project, which is expected to bring thousands of acres of Balochistan under cultivation, promoting regional development and prosperity.

Shehbaz Sharif underlined that the prosperity of Balochistan is vital to Pakistan’s overall progress, and all provinces will benefit fairly from national resources.

Furthermore, the federal cabinet approved an amendment to the Petroleum Products (Petroleum Levy) Ordinance 1961 to boost government revenues.

The cabinet also gave a nod to the Sustainable Investment Sukuk Framework, paving the way for the issuance of domestic sustainable Sukuk to support local investment initiatives.
