January 18, 2025 (MLN): The successful completion of the first three waves of the rightsizing exercise by various ministries and their in-charge ministers, have been praised for its efficiency and dedication, earning commendation from Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

He chaired the meeting of the Committee on Rightsizing the Federal Government (Wave-IV), according to the press release.

The initial three waves aimed to streamline 43 ministries and nearly 400 attached departments of the federal government, targeting completion by the end of the current financial year.

The Minister emphasized that the implementation of decisions made by the Committee and endorsed by the federal cabinet would be monitored by the sub-committee of the Rightsizing Committee.

He further noted that the main Committee would only intervene in cases where issues require escalation.

Referring to the fourth wave of the rightsizing initiative, the Minister stated that five ministries’ Communications, Railways, Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Revenue, and Petroleum would be reviewed.

He added that their attached departments would also undergo evaluation for rightsizing in line with the Committee's mandate.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for Communications, Mr. Abdul Aleem Khan, Members of the National Assembly, and Federal Secretaries from the relevant ministries and divisions.

During the proceedings, the Ministry of Communications delivered a comprehensive presentation to the Cabinet body, outlining its functions and organizational structure.

The presentation also explored potential opportunities for semi-privatization and public-private partnership (PPP) models for various projects and initiatives.

The Committee was informed that, in line with the rightsizing initiative, the Ministry had already eliminated all redundant posts.

Lastly, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan said the NHA could become a major revenue spinner for the government if its resources were diverted to construction of revenue-based motorways like the M-6 leading from Sukkur to Karachi port.
