Fertilizer offtake declines in April 2025

May 15, 2025 (MLN): The country’s overall nutrient offtake in April 2025 declined to 222 thousand tonnes, showing an 8.8% decrease compared to April 2024, according to the latest monthly fertilizer report issued by the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC).

Among major nutrients, nitrogen offtake witnessed a significant decrease of 14.6%, while phosphate and potash offtake increased by 10.1% and 30.9%, respectively.

Urea, DAP

Urea offtake during April 2025 stood at 251 thousand tonnes, marking a 23.5% drop compared to April 2024.

DAP offtake, however, rose slightly by 2.6%, recording 95 thousand tonnes.

Fertilizer production and imported supplies

Total domestic fertilizer production in April 2025 was 784 thousand tonnes.

Urea production was recorded at 570 thousand tonnes, while DAP production reached 72 thousand tonnes.

Production of other products i.e., NP, CAN, SSP, NPKs and SOP was 65, 62, 6.6, 5.3 and 3.6 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Supply/Demand Situation

Total urea availability during April 2025 was 1,390 thousand tonnes, including 820 thousand tonnes leftover from March and 570 thousand tonnes from fresh production.

With offtake at 251 thousand tonnes, the closing balance rose to 1,104 thousand tonnes.

DAP availability stood at 298 thousand tonnes, sourced from 187 thousand tonnes in stock, 39 thousand tonnes of imports, and 72 thousand tonnes of local production.

After the offtake of 95 thousand tonnes, the closing balance reached 204 thousand tonnes.

Domestic prices

The price of urea (sona), urea (other), and DAP changed slightly by -0.5%, -0.3%, and 1.9%, respectively, during April 2025 as compared with the previous month.

On the other hand, the price of CAN decreased by 1%, while prices of other phosphate fertilizer products such as NP, and SSP changed by 0.6%, and 1.6% respectively.

The average price of urea (sona), urea (other), and DAP was Rs4,499, Rs4,371, and Rs12,363 per 50 kg bag, respectively.

International prices

The price of urea in the Chinese market remained stable during April 2025, while in the Middle East, it showed an upward trend.

Urea prices were quoted in the range of $264–280 per tonne FOB bulk in China and $380–400 per tonne in the Middle East.

DAP prices in Morocco increased by $52.2 per tonne, while prices in China rose by $40 per tonne.

In April 2025, DAP prices ranged from $620–715 per tonne FOB in Morocco and $630–675 per tonne FOB in China.

MAP and TSP bulk prices ranged between $633–667 and $495–540 per tonne FOB, respectively.

Ex-Karachi price of imported urea ranged between Rs5,153 and Rs7,305 per 50 kg bag, while the price of imported DAP was in the range of Rs11,408 to Rs12,978 per 50 kg bag.
