ECC suspends import conditions for Timber/Wood

ECC to review urea fertilizer import proposals

June 21, 2023 (MLN): The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has suspended the import conditions related to the import of Timber/Wood from the date of issuance of the Import Policy Order (IPO) 2022 until October 31, 2023, said a press statement issued by the Finance Division on Wednesday. 

Furthermore, the ECC has directed the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MoNFS&R) to thoroughly review the import policy and present recommendations to resolve the existing issues.

The summary regarding the suspension of Import conditions contained in Import Policy Order 2022 related to the import of Timber/Wood was submitted by the Ministry of Commerce.

The ECC also considered and approved another summary of the Ministry of Commerce regarding amendment in a relevant clause in the Import Policy Order 2022 to allow government agencies to import pharmaceutical raw materials. 

In addition, the following Technical Supplementary Grants were also approved:

  1. Rs567.120 million as a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, designated for development expenditure.

  2. Rs40mn as TSG for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, allocated to Cadet College Hassanabdal for need-based scholarships to financially challenged students.

  3. Rs14.022mn as TSG for the Federal Tax Ombudsman, dedicated to expenditure on Efficiency, Reform, and Elimination (ERE) projects.

  4. Rs19.236mn as TSG for the Ministry of Interior, intended for the Repair & Maintenance of Helicopter by Pakistan Rangers.

  5. Rs6.279mn as TSG for the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.

  6. Rs150mn as TSG for the Intelligence Bureau, designated to meet its ERE expenditure.

  7. Rs147.913mn as TSG for the Gilgit-Baltistan Council and its departments.

  8. Rs500mn as TSG for the Ministry of Housing and Works, allocated for the execution of development projects.

  9. Rs470.26mn for the Ministry of Housing and Works, designated for the Repair & Maintenance of the Supreme Court of Pakistan building, Islamabad, as well as judges' residences, rest houses, and sub-offices in various cities.
