April 23, 2021 (MLN): The total DAP offtake during the month of March 2021 stood at 144 thousand tonnes, registering an increase of 81.4 percent as compared to the offtake of 79 thousand tonnes in March 2020.

According to the monthly report issued by National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC), the cumulative DAP offtake during Rabi 2020-21 (October-March) was 1105 thousand tonnes which increased by 2.4 percent over the same time frame of the previous season.

Province-wise, DAP offtake significantly increased by 77, 115, 14 and 16 percent in provinces of Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan, respectively as compared to March 2020.

The total availability of DAP was 201 thousand tonnes during March 2021 which comprised 54 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 66 thousand tonnes of domestic production and 81 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. DAP offtake was about 144 thousand tonnes. The closing balance at the end of March was 55 thousand tonnes.

OUTLOOK FOR KHARIF 2021

The availability of DAP will remain under stress after June 2021. The prices of DAP are at the highest level and the importers are reluctant to import DAP at such a high price.

The total availability of DAP is estimated to be 643 thousand tonnes for the upcoming Kharif 2021, which includes opening inventory of 55 thousand tonnes, domestic production of 420 thousand tonnes and 168 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. Offtake is expected around 1,012 thousand tonnes. The supply/demand gap will be filled by imports through the private sector, the report said.
