DAP off take declines by 17% in Rabi 2019

April 24, 2019 (MLN): DAP sales in March 2019 trickled down from about 150.2 thousand tonnes during corresponding month of last year to 65.5 thousand tonnes, demonstrating a substantial decline of about 56.4% over the year.

As we break this down in detail, the total availability of DAP was 666 thousand tonnes during March 2019 which comprised of 508 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 75 thousand tonnes of domestic production and 83 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. While the DAP offtake was about 65 thousand tonnes, the closing balance at the end of the month was 599 thousand tonnes.

During the six months of the ongoing Rabi season (October 2018 – March 2019), a total of 1.2 million tonnes of DAP was sold within Pakistan which is 17.1% smaller an offtake compared to last year’s Rabi season.

While Punjab emerged as the biggest consumer of DAP in March 2019 by recording a sale of 51 thousand tonnes, the demand in the province shrunk by 53% over the year.

Meanwhile, the biggest decline in DAP demand was observed in KP where it came down by 88% over the year to just 1.1 thousand tonnes.
