CPI for October stands at 26.56% YoY

November 1, 2022 (MLN): The consumer price index (CPI) for the month of Oct 2022 increased by 26.6% YoY, as compared 23.2% increase in the last month, and on monthly basis, it increased to 4.7% MoM, the latest data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Tuesday showed.

SPI inflation on YoY increased to 24.0% in Oct 2022 as compared to an increase of 28.6% a month earlier and an increase of 15.3% in Oct 2021. On MoM basis, it decreased by 1.5% in Oct 2022 as compared to a decrease of 1.4% a month earlier and an increase of 2.1% in Oct 2021.

The National Consumer Price Index for Oct 2022 is increased to 4.71% over September 2022 and increased to 26.56% over corresponding month of the last year i.e. Oct 2021.

The average CPI in these four months of the current fiscal year was 25.5% compared to 8.75% during the same period of last year.

As per the report, year-on-year basis CPI inflation in Urban increased to 24.6% in Oct 2022 as compared to an increase of 21.2% in the previous month and 9.6% in Oct 2021.

On a month-on-month basis, Urban CPI increased to 4.50% over Sept 2022 and increased to 24.57% over the corresponding month of the last year which is Oct 2021.

The MoM top few food items which increased are onions (67.73%), tomatoes (40.73%), fresh fruits (10.98%), tea (9.82%), fresh vegetables (9.55%), wheat flour (8.9%), dry fruits (6.04%), dessert preparation (5.14%), chicken (3.98%), meat (2.09%), rice (1.56%), pulse moong (1.28%), milk fresh (1.21%), beans (1.02%) and sugar (0.36%).

Price decreases of items including pulse masoor (10.29%), pulse mash (2.73%), cooking oil (2.7%), mustard oil (1.84%), pulse gram (1.77%), gram whole (1.48%), potatoes (1.46%) and vegetable ghee (0.33%).

Non-food increased in electricity charges (89.59%), woolen cloth (6.15%), household servant (5.01%), construction input items (2.72%), household equipment (1.96%), solid fuel (1.74%), house rent (1.08%) and construction wage rates (0.29%) and decreased in liquified hydrocarbons (11.37%) and motor fuel (4.22%).

Accordingly, CPI inflation in Rural increased to 29.5% on a year-on-year basis in Oct 2022 as compared to an increase of 26.1% in the previous month and 8.7% in Oct 2021.

MoM The CPI index for Oct 2022 increased to 5.01% over Sep 2022 and increased to 29.53% over the corresponding month of the last year i.e., Oct 2021.

Top food items whose percentage MoM increased are onions (59.54%), tomatoes (38.4%), fresh vegetables (16.45%), wheat flour (15.21%), tea (14.77%), fresh fruits (13.05%), wheat (10.14%), potatoes (4.38%), chicken (3.8%), pulse gram (1.99%), pulse moong (1.83%), dry fruits (1.75%), mustard oil (1.71rice (1.44%), pulse mash (1.12%), milk fresh (1.12%), meat (0.42%) and sugar (0.27%), and decreased pulse masoor (4.65%), cooking oil (2.28%) and vegetable ghee (1.62%).

Meanwhile, nonfood items increased are electricity charges (89.59%), woolen cloth (1.54%), house rent (1.29%), construction input items (1.09%), household equipment (1.08%), construction wage rates (0.29%), and motor vehicles (0.03%) and decreased in liquified hydrocarbons (12.72%) and motor fuels (4.32%).
