ISLAMABAD, Mar 13 (APP):Renowned economist Shahid Javed Burki on Tuesday said that The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project offers a unique opportunity to boost development and economic growth in Pakistan on a sustainable basis.

CPEC will bring greater integration of Pakistan's backward areas into those that are more developed, he said in an interview with Private news channel.

It will also link Pakistan with the global economic system from which it has remained relatively detached, he added.

Economists said total investment China has announced under CPEC is merely eight percent of Pakistan's GDP.

Javed Burki said besides, government needed to work upon a better communication strategy so that people should know about real developments on the project instead of taking pre-conceived and pre-mature stance on various ongoing happenings, especially, the negotiation process with Chinese government on CPEC modalities on an ongoing basis.
