Country has ample sugar stock, no shortage: Tanveer

March 25, 2025 (MLN): The country has sufficient sugar stock, and there is no shortage of the commodity, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain confirmed.

Addressing concerns over sugar prices, he refuted reports claiming that sugar is being sold at Rs180 per kilogram.

He assured that the retail price would not exceed Rs164 per kilogram, while the ex-mill price would be capped at Rs159 per kilogram.

He emphasized that the federal government, in coordination with provincial authorities, would take strict action against any attempts to raise prices unlawfully, as per the press release.

The minister also highlighted that the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association had set up stalls at the tehsil level during Ramadan, where sugar is being sold at Rs130 per kilogram.

Additionally, he noted that the commodity is available at Utility Stores for Rs153 per kilogram.
