August 18, 2023 (MLN): China emerged as the largest investor in Pakistan in July 2023, with a total direct investment of $18 million, followed by Hongkong and Netherlands who invested $16.9m and $12.1m respectively, according to SBP data issued.
The total direct investment from China surged by 2.55x YoY compared to $7.1m in July 2022, while the total direct investment from Hongkong and Netherlands recorded an increase of 14.53x YoY and 2.51x YoY in the month.
The inflows from China increased by 95.2% YoY compared to July 2022, while the outflows rose by 54.24% YoY.
Other important investors were U.S., U.A.E, and Switzerland with a net FDI of $11.2m, $10.5m, and $9.6m respectively during the month.
Moreover, Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI), which represents an investment in the equity market recorded a net investment of $22.3m.
The US emerged as the biggest investor during the month, as it injected $7.9m during the month, followed by Sweden with an investment of $3m, and $U.A.E with $2.3m during the month.
