China remains Pakistan’s top source of imports during July

US Importers to lobby for GSP renewal with Pakistan

August 18, 2023 (MLN): Among Pakistan’s top trading partners, China remained the top source of imports for Pakistan during July FY23, followed by U. A. E. Dubai, Indonesia, and Qatar.

According to the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the total imports from China during the period under review were down by 14.49% YoY to $962.74 million, as compared to $1.13 billion recorded in the corresponding period of last year.

This was followed by U. A. E. Dubai, as Pakistan imported goods worth $324.55m from the Emirates as compared to the imports of $783.22m recorded during the same month of the previous year, depicting a decline of 58.56% YoY.

Indonesia was the third on the list as Pakistan imported products worth $212.68m from the country. This figure was down by 4.66% from the imports of $223.08m in the same period last year.

Qatar was the fourth in line as imports came from the region during the aforementioned period were $185.11m, depicting a significant decrease of 56.11% YoY.

Among other countries, Pakistan’s imports from Singapore stood at $177.73m, marking a drop of 54.16% YoY, while imports from the U.S.A. decreased by 5.29% YoY to $174.48m.

Meanwhile, the imports from Saudi Arabia stood at $170.97m, up by 61.46% YoY.

In the month of July alone, the total imports from China increased by 54.32% MoM. While imports from U. A. E. Dubai dropped by 3.9% MoM.

Moreover, imports from Indonesia depicted an increase of 46.2% MoM.
