Car sales up by 2x YoY in July’21; Toyota Yaris leads volumetric chart

August 11, 2021 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars witnessed a two-fold increase to clock in at 20,699 units during the month of July 2021 as compared to 10,123 units sold in July 2020. This healthy growth in volumes is mainly attributed to the lower car prices following the announcement of duty and tax relief in the federal budget fiscal year 22, which came into effect in July.

According to a monthly report released by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the total production of passengers cars was recorded at 15,325 units in July 2021.

Going by the report, the maximum number of sales were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category at 7,265 units, up by around 25%YoY. Within this category, Toyota Yaris recorded the highest sales at 2,700 units, followed by Toyota Corolla, Honda Cars (Civics and City), Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Sonata which sold 2,320, 1,700, 225 and 163 units, respectively.

The second-highest number of sales was made within the 'Below 1000cc' category at 7,060 units i.e. 2.6x YoY. In this segment, Suzuki Alto recorded the highest sales at 6,110 units, followed by Suzuki Bolan that sold 950 units.

Similarly, the '1000 cc' category also witnessed a volumetric growth of nearly 4x YoY to clock in at 6,344 units. Within this category, Suzuki Cultus recorded the highest sales at 4,213 units, followed by Suzuki WagonR which sold 2,131 units.

The total sale of Trucks during the month stood at 320 units, up by 46% YoY. Isuzu emerged as the best-selling truck, with sales of around 227 units during the month. HINO and JAC made sales of 75 units and 18 units, respectively.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 23 units, which signifies a decrease of 38% as compared to the same period last year. Within this segment, Isuzu made the maximum sales at 13 units, while Hino recorded sales of 10 units during the month of July 2021.

Cumulatively, total sales of Truck and Buses during the month clocked in at 343 units against the production of 280 units.
