Car sales rise 14.8% in August 2024

September 10, 2024 (MLN): The sales of cars, including LCVs, vans, and jeeps, in Pakistan increased by 14.8% in August 2024, clocking in at 8,699 units compared to 7,579 units recorded in the same month of last year, the latest data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) showed today.

Similarly, on a month-on-month basis, auto sales have increased by 1.3% compared to the 8,589 cars sold in July 2024.

Cumulatively, in 2MFY25, sales clocked in at 17,288 units, around 36.4% higher compared to 12,671 units sold in 2MFY24.

Breaking up the data, during the review month, passenger car sales increased by 8.6% to 6,417 units compared to 5,909 units recorded in the same month of last year

The total production of passenger cars was recorded at 4,557 units in August, down 26.9% compared to 6,231 units made in the same month of last year.

The data released by PAMA further showed that the maximum number of passenger car sales was made within the ‘1300cc and Above’ category at 3,330 units in August 2024.

Within this category, Toyota (Corolla & Yaris) recorded the highest sales at 1,565 units, followed by Honda Cars (Civic & City) with sales of 1,073 units, Suzuki Swift with 559 units, and Hyundai Elantra with 70 units.

The second highest number of sales was made within the ‘Below 1000cc’ category at 2,766 units during the review month.

Suzuki Alto led sales with 2,023 units in this category, with the Suzuki Bolan following with 743 of units.

Moreover, the '1000 cc' segment witnessed a sale of 321 units in August 2024.

In this category, Suzuki WagonR recorded the highest sales at 190 units, followed by Suzuki Cultus with sales of 131 units.
