SBP buys $863m from interbank market in July

October 26, 2026 (MLN): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) purchased a net $863 million from the interbank foreign exchange market in July 2026, according to data released by the central bank.

The net intervention increased from $841 million in June 2026, reflecting a month-on-month rise of $22 million.

The central bank’s net foreign exchange intervention stood at $635 million in April before declining to $154 million in May and recovering to $841 million in June.

During FY26, the SBP recorded net foreign exchange purchases of $8.1 billion from the interbank market, based on monthly intervention data from June 2025 to June 2026.

The highest monthly net purchase during this period was recorded in September 2025 at $1.023 billion, followed by December 2025 at $1.024 billion and October 2025 at $1.033 billion.

The SBP’s net foreign exchange intervention is defined as outright and swap purchases of foreign exchange minus outright and swap sales to and from banks in the interbank foreign exchange market.
