October 26, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and  Ethiopia have agreed to continue engagement to strengthen trade, investment, financial cooperation and economic connectivity, with both sides looking at closer banking links and improved air connectivity to boost commercial and people-to-people ties.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reaffirmed Pakistan’s interest in expanding economic relations with Ethiopia, while the two sides also reviewed the impact of ongoing global conflicts on energy supplies, fertiliser availability and food security.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan  Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba called on the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, accompanied by Minister Counsellor Melaw Getachew and Political Diplomacy In-charge Kalkidan Tadesse, said a press release issued.

The two sides discussed connectivity, economic and financial cooperation, trade and investment, and compared the development experiences of both countries, noting similarities in their economic structures and the need for approaches suited to domestic conditions.

Senator Aurangzeb briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms, which aim to secure lasting stability and lay the groundwork for sustainable, investment-led growth.

The ambassador stressed that closer cooperation between the two banking sectors would support higher trade and investment flows.

The two sides also noted that disruptions to energy and fertiliser supply chains could hurt agricultural production and economic activity, and stressed preparedness and cooperation in managing external shocks and safeguarding stability.
