Pakistan eyes US investment in refineries, LNG

October 26, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and the US have discussed ways to
strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with Islamabad pitching
its refinery upgradation programme as an investment opportunity for US
financial institutions and Washington signalling interest in long-term energy
supply contracts.
Pakistan said it had taken measures to secure its fuel supplies amid the
conflict in the Middle East, while the US welcomed the country's handling of
fuel availability, noting that no shortage had occurred despite regional
challenges.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met US Chargé d'Affaires
Natalie A. Baker and briefed her on the steps Pakistan has taken to maintain
uninterrupted fuel supplies given the evolving geopolitical situation, according
to a press release issued.
He said the teams of both countries
were already in contact to identify areas of cooperation, and thanked the US
for its support.
Natalie Baker said Washington wanted to work closely with Pakistan on its
energy needs and create openings for US companies, adding that long-term supply
arrangements would benefit both sides.
The Managing Directors of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Pakistan LNG Limited
(PLL) briefed participants on the interest shown by US companies in supplying
LNG to Pakistan.
Ali Malik also invited US companies to take part in the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF), pointing to investment opportunities in the country.
