Banks's loan-to-deposit ratio reaches 56% in 2019

January 10, 2020 (MLN): Banking sector deposits grew 10% YoY from Rs 13.35 trillion in 2018 to Rs 14.63 trillion in 2019, revealed latest data issued by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Meanwhile, total advances of commercial banks during the year showed a meagre growth of 3% YoY to Rs 8.15 trillion compared to Rs 7.88 trillion recorded in 2018.
On the other hand, total investment by commercial banks during the year displayed a rather better picture as it jumped by 16% YoY from Rs 7.58 trillion to Rs 8.8 trillion.
This suggests that advance-to-deposit ratio reached 56% during the year.
