Auto sector shows further recovery as sale of passenger cars surges by 8.3%

September 10, 2020: The sale of passenger cars during the month of August 2020 was recorded at 9,885 units against a total production of 7,177 units, which is around 8.3 percent higher as compared to the 9,126 units sold in the same month of last year.

According to a monthly report released by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the Maximum number of sales were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category at 4,748 units. Within this category, Honda Cars recorded the highest sales at 1,980 units, followed by Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla, and Suzuki Swift which sold 1,705, 867, and 196 units, respectively.

The second-highest number of sales were made within the 'Below 1000cc' category at 3,004 units. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded the highest sales at 2,389 units, followed by Suzuki Bolan which sold 615 units.

On the contrary, the '1000 cc' category witnessed a sale of 2,133 units during the month. wherein Suzuki Cultus recorded the highest sales at 1,400 units, followed by Suzuki WagonR that sold 733 units.

The total number of trucks sold during the year stood at 223 units, which translates into a growth of 2.3 percent as compared to the previous year. Isuzu emerged as the best-selling truck, with sales of around 113 units during the year, with MASTER following the lead with sales of 61 units.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 61 units, which signifies a decline of 76.1 percent as compared to the previous year. Within this segment, Master made the maximum sales at 28 units, while Hino took the second spot by selling around 26 units during the period under review.
