Amir Paracha elected as President of OICCI

February 28, 2023 (MLN): Amir Paracha, Chairman & CEO of Unilever Pakistan Limited, has been elected as the President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) for the 2023 term.

The announcement was made at the 163rd Annual General Meeting of the OICCI held on February 28, 2023. Rehan Muhammad Shaikh, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, was also elected as the Vice President.

The OICCI Managing Committee for 2023 includes eight other elected members, including Syed Anis Ahmed of Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Limited, Ahmed Zahid Zaheer of Chevron Pakistan Lubricants (Pvt) Limited, Umar Ahsan Khan of Dawlance (Private) Limited, Kamran Ataullah Khan of Dupont Pakistan Operations (Pvt) Limited, Erum Shakir Rahim of Galxosmithkline Pakistan Limited, Najeeb Ahmad of Hitachi Energy Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, Ali Asghar Jamali of Indus Motor Company Limited, and Waqar Irshad Siddiqui of Shell Pakistan Limited.

In his message to the members, Amir Paracha highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan and the need for leaders across all sectors to unite and lead Pakistan back on a path of growth.

He emphasized the importance of foreign investment as the primary gateway for developing economies like Pakistan to access innovative technology and increased market access, resulting in improved human capital.

He also stressed the critical role of predictable, consistent, and transparent policy frameworks in enabling Pakistan to achieve a higher growth trajectory.

Amir Paracha began his career at Royal Dutch Shell Oil company in July 1996 and joined Unilever Pakistan in 2000. He has led multiple categories in Pakistan and in the GCC cluster and has also served as Chairman & CEO since 2020.

Amir earned his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, and serves on the Boards of Endeavor Pakistan, Karachi Vocational Training Centre, and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI).

The OICCI, founded in 1860, is the largest chamber of commerce in Pakistan, representing more than 200 foreign investors from over 35 countries.

The chamber’s mission is to promote, protect, and safeguard the interests of foreign investors in Pakistan, and to serve as a bridge between the government and the private sector.
