June 16, 2025 (MLN): In a significant boost to regional trade and connectivity, the cargo vessel MV ASL ROSE successfully docked at Gwadar Port, representing the second consignment under the Afghan Transit Trade initiative.

Arriving from Australia, the ship carried 20,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser destined for Afghanistan.

The consignment was imported by Agven Private Limited, further underscoring Gwadar Port’s growing prominence as a strategic transit hub for Afghan-bound cargo.

The first vessel under this trade route, MV Beyond 2, berthed at Gwadar Port earlier on February 4.

This development follows a key policy shift by the Economic Coordination Committee of Pakistan, which abolished the requirement for bank guarantees on Afghan trade an effort to streamline operations and strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Gwadar Port Chairman Shah Irfan Ahmed stated that the swift unloading and successful berthing of MV ASL ROSE highlight the port’s readiness for modern, efficient commercial operations, as per the press release.

He emphasized that Gwadar’s expanding role in Afghan transit trade not only reflects its operational capabilities but also presents broader regional economic opportunities.

“We aim to establish Gwadar Port as a reliable trade corridor not just for Afghanistan but for Central Asia as well,” Mr. Ahmed added.
