September 12, 2025 (MLN): The Board of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has decided to restructure the organization, establish new regional offices and initiate the process for appointing a new chief executive officer (CEO).

These decisions were taken at the 31st meeting of the SMEDA Board, chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum, SMEDA CEO Soqrat Aman Rana, and other senior officials.

Haroon Akhtar Khan noted that SMEDA’s new structure, finalized under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasizes an outsourcing model along with policy and program design.

He added that the authority will prioritize initiatives focused on SMEs, micro-enterprises, women entrepreneurs and climate-related challenges.

To ensure transparency, the Board agreed that the Human Resource Committee will be nominated to finalize the appointment of the new CEO on a merit-based and immediate basis.

It was also decided that SMEDA will expand its presence by opening regional offices in Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Reaffirming the Prime Minister’s vision, Haroon Akhtar Khan stressed that SMEDA is a vital institution with immense potential.

He streesed that empowering women, supporting micro-enterprises and driving SME growth would have a transformative impact on the economy and society. “SMEs are thriving and expanding every day, and SMEDA has a crucial role to play in shaping this growth,” he concluded.
