PM Shehbaz Sharif arrives in New York for 81st UNGA session

September 22, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Monday to represent Pakistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), accompanied by a small Pakistani delegation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the Prime Minister during his visit.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 25, where he will outline Pakistan’s perspective on evolving regional and global security challenges and stress the need for dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful settlement of conflicts, according to media reports.

He will also highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional peace and stability.

The Prime Minister is expected to present Pakistan’s priorities on key international issues, including sustainable development, climate change, counterterrorism, Islamophobia and global economic challenges.

He will also draw international attention to the issues of prolonged occupation and denial of the right to self-determination in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

During the UNGA session, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in several high-level meetings focusing on development, climate action and other key issues, where he will present Pakistan’s position.

He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders and the UN Secretary-General on the sidelines of the General Assembly session.
