February 25, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Qatar reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors with both sides agreeing to enhance economic partnership and strengthen coordination on regional and international issues.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held detailed talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and separately met with the Amir of the State of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Senior Pakistani officials accompanying the prime minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and translating strong political ties into tangible economic outcomes.

The two sides expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in political, economic and institutional engagement, reaffirming the longstanding fraternal relationship between Pakistan and Qatar, according to a press release issued.

Both countries agreed to accelerate cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence, labour mobility and cultural exchanges, including through a joint task force mandated to fast-track collaboration in these areas.

They also emphasized the importance of implementing decisions taken under institutional mechanisms such as the Joint Ministerial Commission and Bilateral Political Consultations.

Regional developments, including the situation in Gaza and broader Gulf security dynamics, also came under discussion.

The prime minister appreciated Qatar’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation, while both sides highlighted the importance of peaceful dispute resolution in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.

During the meeting with the Amir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his invitation for a visit to Pakistan, which was accepted.

The visit is expected to take place later this year, reflecting the shared resolve of both countries to further solidify their robust partnership and elevate economic cooperation to a higher strategic level.
