Pakistan, Malaysia sign MoU to boost anti-corruption cooperation

October 07, 2025 (MLN): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of Pakistan and Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral collaboration in preventing and combating corruption.

The MoU was signed and exchanged by NAB Deputy Chairman Mr. Sohail Nasir and MACC Chief Commissioner Mr. Azam Bin Baki during a ceremony held in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur.

The event was witnessed by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The agreement focuses on mutual assistance, joint capacity building, and technical cooperation to counter corruption.

It will facilitate the exchange of information on legislative developments, public awareness initiatives, and community education aimed at strengthening public participation in anti-corruption efforts.

Under the MoU, both institutions will collaborate through professional training programs, exchange of expertise, and sharing of operational experiences to enhance human resource capacity.

In view of global concerns over corruption, money laundering, and cross-border financial crimes, the partnership aims to bolster efforts in tackling illicit financial flows, improving legal frameworks, and aligning with international conventions.

Both Pakistan and Malaysia are signatories to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

The anti-corruption MoU is one of six agreements signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia.
