Pakistan, Azerbaijan reaffirm commitment to regional peace

August 11, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their deep ties and shared commitment to regional peace during a warm exchange between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev.

In their cordial telephone conversation, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt wishes to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on the historic peace agreement recently concluded, lauding the Azerbaijani leader’s “visionary role” in bringing the three-decade-old conflict with Armenia to a peaceful and mutually beneficial end.

He noted that this achievement would usher in a new era of prosperity for the Caucasus region.

The Prime Minister also praised the role of former U.S. President Donald Trump in facilitating the agreement and in ending the recent Indo-Pak war, describing him as a peacemaker across the globe.

President Aliyev expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s longstanding and consistent support on the Karabakh issue.

In response, Prime Minister Sharif said it had always been a matter of duty for the people of Pakistan to stand by their Azerbaijani brothers and sisters on this core matter, adding that it was heartening to see peace finally achieved under President Aliyev’s bold leadership and statesmanship.

The two leaders also expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral cooperation, recalling their recent interactions in Lachin and Khankendi.

Prime Minister Sharif reiterated his invitation for President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan soon, with both leaders also expected to meet in Tianjin on the margins of the upcoming SCO Summit.
