PM calls for stronger climate change response

August 4, 2025 (MLN): Emphasizing the urgency of climate challenges, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for concerted and vigorous efforts to address the impact of climate change during a meeting in Gilgit.

Reviewed the damage caused by recent rains and floods in Gilgit-Baltistan, he directed the Ministry of Climate Change to adopt a more proactive approach and stressed the importance of generating funds for climate-resilient infrastructure.

He noted that while Pakistan contributes minimally to global emissions, it remains among the ten countries most severely affected by climate change.

He said that every region of the country is experiencing the effects of climate change, emphasizing the crucial role of the Ministry of Climate Change in addressing the issue.

Appreciation was extended to the NDMA for its efforts in relief and rehabilitation in flood affected areas.

The Prime Minister also proclaim the establishment of Daanish Schools in Gilgit-Baltistan and shared that he is personally overseeing a solar power project approved by the Central Development Working Party for the region.

He added that the project's approval will also be sought from ECNEC and assured that it will be his utmost effort to complete the project at the earliest.
