July 23, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to develop and launch joint programmes ahead of COP31, with a particular focus on electric vehicles (EVs), electrification, energy efficiency, and strengthening the recycling industry.

Both sides also agreed to share key updates on two Pakistani climate initiatives at COP31 and to explore closer cooperation in these areas, said a press release issued.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and Fatma Varank, Deputy Minister for Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye and President of the upcoming COP31, held in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the COP31 Heads of Delegations Retreat.

The two sides discussed their shared vision and priorities for COP31, which Türkiye will host later this year.

Dr. Musadik Malik briefed the Turkish delegation on two initiatives currently being developed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination: the Green Field Programme, aimed at fostering a green start-up revolution and supporting young entrepreneurs in developing innovative climate solutions, and the Green University, envisioned as a global platform for research and student and faculty exchanges to advance commercially applicable research and innovation.

Both sides agreed to share key updates on these initiatives at COP31 and to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye in these areas.

The Federal Minister also conveyed the Prime Minister of Pakistan's warm regards to the President of the Republic of Türkiye and the First Lady, acknowledging her leadership and keen interest in addressing climate change and advancing climate action.

Dr. Musadik Malik and Fatma Varank reaffirmed the importance of Pakistan-Türkiye cooperation in advancing practical, innovative, and scalable climate solutions.
