OGDC taps new oil at Chakar–1

August 01, 2025 (MLN): Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC), operator of the Tando Allah Yar Exploration License (TAY E.L), has confirmed an oil discovery at its Chakar–1 exploratory well in District Tando Allah Yar, Sindh.

The well was drilled to a depth of 1,926 meters and successfully tested oil flow from the B-Sand layer of the Lower Goru Formation, the Company's filing on PSX revealed today. 

Initial testing showed a flow of 275 barrels of oil per day through a 32/64" choke at 400 psi wellhead pressure, using an Electrical Submersible Pump.

Additional formation testing also identified hydrocarbons in the Lower Ranikot formation, where further assessments are currently underway.

This marks the 13th discovery under the TAY license, a joint venture between OGDCL (95% interest) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (5% carried interest).

The results to date reinforce confidence in the geological prospectivity of the area and support ongoing exploration and appraisal efforts to further delineate its resource base.
