PSX Closing Bell: A Slight Step Back

July 28, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) retreated on Tuesday as investors resorted to profit-taking following Monday's strong rally, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index surrendering some of its previous session's gains. 

The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Tuesday's trading session at 177,623.88, showing a decrease of 638.45 points or 0.36%.

The index traded in a range of 1,688.04 points, touching an intraday high of 179,123.00 (+860.67 points) and a low of 177,434.96 (-827.37 points).


The total volume traded in the KSE-100 Index stood at 478.02 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies, 26 closed higher, 73 ended lower, while 1 remained unchanged.

Top losers during the day were PGLC (-5.83%), HGFA (-4.07%), FFL (-3.80%), PIOC (-2.81%), and JDWS (-2.40%).

On the other hand, top gainers were AICL (+10.00%), ATRL (+2.96%), ILP (+2.62%), NML (+2.43%), and MEHT (+2.37%).


In terms of index-point contributions, UBL (-141.09pts), OGDC (-55.55pts), HUBC (-47.19pts), PPL (-43.06pts), and BOP (-32.06pts) exerted the biggest drag on the benchmark.

Meanwhile, AICL (+60.74pts), ATRL (+41.80pts), ENGROH (+30.16pts), ILP (+26.21pts), and NML (+19.80pts) provided support to the index.


Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-322.35pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-119.41pts), Cement (-86.45pts), Technology & Communication (-61.54pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-57.32pts).

On the positive side, Insurance (+60.74pts), Refinery (+50.97pts), Textile Composite (+41.76pts), Automobile Assembler (+11.28pts), and Investment Banks / Investment Companies / Securities Companies (+11.23pts) supported the index.


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 107,472.26, showing a net loss of 365.17 points or 0.34%.

Total market volume stood at 958.01 million shares, compared with 1,032.19m in the previous session, while traded value was recorded at Rs41.57 billion, showing an increase of Rs0.55bn.

A total of 415,253 trades were reported across 494 companies, with 155 stocks closing higher, 306 lower, and 33 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 2,678 points or 1.49% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 3,570 points or 2.05% so far this calendar year.
