PKR maintains positive momentum against USD

July 28, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up further against the US dollar on Tuesday, extending its recent run of gains in the interbank market as it settled at PKR 277.85, up 0.96 paisa from Monday's close of PKR 277.86.

During the session, the currency touched an intraday high (bid) of 277.90 and a low (ask) of 277.85 before settling.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.75 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

The rupee's gains were more pronounced against other major currencies. It firmed up 74.73 paisa or 0.24% against the Euro, closing at 315.92 versus 316.67 previously.

Against the British Pound, it gained 94.37 paisa or 0.25% to settle at 369.57, compared to 370.51 a day earlier.

The local currency also strengthened by Rs1.76 or 0.52% against the Swiss Franc, closing at 339.05, and rose 0.33 paisa or 0.19% against the Japanese Yen to 1.6959.

Against the Chinese Yuan, however, the rupee slipped marginally by 0.13 paisa to close at 41.06.

It gained 0.85 paisa against the Saudi Riyal, settling at 74.01, while losing 0.56 paisa against the UAE Dirham to close at 75.66.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by 30.92 paisa or 0.11% against the US dollar so far in the current fiscal year, while gaining Rs2.27 or 0.82% since the start of the calendar year.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark 6-month KIBOR bid and offer rates edged down by 1 basis point each to 11.49% and 11.74%, respectively.
