August 08, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s equity market witnessed a marginal yet notable shift in the latest MSCI August 2025 Index Review, with Faysal Bank Limited (FABL) making its debut in the MSCI Frontier Markets Standard Index, while Indus Dyeing (IDYM) and Jubilee General Insurance (JGICL) found entry into the MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Index.

The changes are set to take effect at the close of trading on August 26, 2025.

On the flip side, Habib Sugar Mills (HABSM) and Octopus Digital (OCTOPUS) have been dropped from the Small Cap Index, marking a reshuffling that could influence passive fund flows and market sentiment around these stocks.

This inclusion of FABL in the Standard Index is expected to trigger passive foreign inflows, as global funds tracking the MSCI Frontier Markets Index recalibrate portfolios.

Historically, such upgrades have bolstered trading volumes and price action in the short term.

Analysts also view this as a validation of FABL's growing market capitalization and liquidity profile.

The broader MSCI Frontier Markets Index saw nine additions and four deletions, with Pakistan securing a modest spot among the fresh inclusions.

However, no deletions were recorded for Pakistan from the Standard Index, a mildly positive sign amid wider frontier market rebalancing.

Globally, the MSCI review resulted in 42 additions and 56 deletions from the MSCI ACWI Index, and a sweeping change of 194 additions and 107 deletions in the ACWI Small Cap Index, indicating continued churn across geographies.

The impact of this review on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) may be limited in size but significant in signalling, reflecting FABL’s upward momentum and renewed confidence in select mid-cap names like IDYM and JGICL.

Meanwhile, market participants will closely monitor liquidity trends and foreign participation, especially as MSCI remains cautious about markets like Bangladesh due to accessibility concerns, which reinforces Pakistan’s relative stability among its frontier peers.
