March 31, 2026 (MLN): The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) held an awareness session at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to promote understanding of competition law, focusing on key areas such as abuse of dominant position, cartelization, deceptive marketing practices, and mergers and acquisitions, while encouraging compliance within the business community.

The meeting was led by CCP Chairman Farid Ahmad Tarar and attended by LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol, along with senior management, executive committee members, and a large number of general body participants, APP reported.

Addressing the participants, CCP Chairman emphasized that distortion of competition harms both businesses and consumers and stressed the importance of fostering a culture of compliance.

He highlighted CCP’s efforts to modernize enforcement mechanisms, including automating complaint handling and developing guidelines for emerging sectors like e-commerce, while also encouraging stronger collaboration with stakeholders and urging LCCI to adopt a voluntary compliance regime.

Faheem ur Rehman Saigol appreciated CCP’s outreach efforts and underscored the need for stronger engagement between the regulator and the business community. He proposed formalizing cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and noted that healthy competition is essential for sustainable economic growth.

Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh and Vice President Khurram Lodhi emphasized continued coordination, suggesting regular advocacy sessions and the appointment of focal persons to enhance collaboration.

Senior CCP officials, including Director General Dr. Ikram ul Haq, Director and Secretary to the Commission Marryum Pervaiz, and Director Maliha Quddus, delivered detailed presentations on the Competition Act, providing practical insights into compliance requirements and fair market practices.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, reflecting strong engagement and reinforcing the importance of ongoing dialogue between CCP and the business community.
