PSX Closing Bell: A Back-Foot Finish

September 09, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s benchmark KSE-100 Index closed Wednesday’s trading session at 171,943.59, falling 698.57 points or 0.40%, as renewed US-Iran military confrontation pushed oil prices higher and heightened concerns over disruptions to Middle Eastern crude supplies.

Oil prices climbed toward $100 a barrel on Wednesday as renewed military confrontation between the United States and Iran intensified fears of further disruptions to crude supplies from the Middle East, weighing on investor sentiment at the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The index traded in a range of 1,372.52 points, reaching an intraday high of 173,174.18, up 532.02 points, while the low stood at 171,801.66, down 840.50 points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index stood at 158.72 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies, 28 closed up, 69 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged.


BWCL (-2.47%), SHFA (-2.23%), SSGC (-2.18%), CHCC (-2.15%), and SRVI (-2.14%) were the top losers.

Meanwhile, PSEL (+10.00%), NPL (+3.62%), LCI (+3.51%), SAZEW (+1.46%), and PABC (+1.38%) led the gainers.


In terms of index-point contributions, FFC (-136.62pts), MCB (-91.74pts), LUCK (-67.45pts), MEBL (-62.86pts), and MARI (-50.47pts) were the major drags on the index.

On the other hand, PSEL (+107.08pts), UBL (+91.03pts), OGDC (+26.07pts), LCI (+24.78pts), and SAZEW (+19.38pts) provided support.


Sector-wise, Commercial Banks (-203.06pts), Cement (-191.35pts), Fertilizer (-170.84pts), Technology & Communication (-51.58pts), and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-48.13pts) weighed on the benchmark.

The index was supported by Miscellaneous (+99.03pts), Chemical (+26.12pts), Automobile Assembler (+20.10pts), Textile Composite (+8.21pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (+7.53pts).


In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 104,321.40, down 337.01 points or 0.32%.

Total market volume declined to 477.67 million shares from 722.62m in the previous session, while traded value fell by Rs5.31bn to Rs22.64bn.

A total of 333,438 trades were reported across 492 companies, with 162 closing up, 293 down, and 37 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 8,358 points or 4.64% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 2,111 points or 1.21% so far this calendar year.
