PKR posts marginal gain against USD

September 09, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar on Wednesday, appreciating 0.82 paisa to close at PKR 277.36 per dollar in the interbank market, compared with the previous session’s closing of PKR 277.37.

During the trading session, the rupee touched an intraday high of 277.40 on the bid side, while the lowest level stood at 277.35 on the ask side.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.45 for selling.

The rupee weakened against most major international currencies.

Against the euro, the local currency declined 36.50 paisa, or 0.11%, to close at PKR 322.52, compared with PKR 322.15 in the previous session.

The PKR depreciated 28.02 paisa, or 0.07%, against the British pound, settling at PKR 375.55 versus PKR 375.27 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss franc, the rupee lost 26.45 paisa, or 0.08%, to close at PKR 342.36.

The local unit also weakened 0.42 paisa, or 0.23%, against the Japanese yen, closing at PKR 1.8069 compared with PKR 1.8027 previously.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee declined 1.88 paisa, or 0.05%, to settle at PKR 41.35 versus PKR 41.33.

The rupee fell 0.58 paisa against the Saudi riyal to close at PKR 73.86.

However, the local currency strengthened 0.33 paisa against the UAE dirham, ending the session at PKR 75.51.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated 79.68 paisa, or 0.29%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the PKR has gained Rs2.76, or 0.99%, against the greenback since the beginning of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.63% and 11.88%, respectively.
