September 09, 2026 (MLN): Oil production from fields in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Karak and Lakki Marwat districts climbed by around 16% during 2025-26, while gas output rose nearly 20%, led largely by a sharp rebound at the Makori Deep field.

Five fields operated by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and MOL in Karak and Lakki Marwat together produced 6.73 million barrels of oil in 2025-26, up from 5.78 million barrels in 2024-25.

Gas output from the same fields rose to 72,126.32 million cubic feet from 60,265.44 million cubic feet a year earlier, APP reported.

OGDCL's Nashpa field in Karak stayed the largest oil producer among the five, with output recovering to 3.73 million barrels from 3.41 million barrels in 2024-25, though still short of the 3.95 million barrels produced in 2023-24.

MOL's Makori East field in Karak followed as the second-largest oil producer at 1.99 million barrels, slightly down from 2.04 million barrels a year earlier and well below the 2.75 million barrels recorded in 2023-24.

The sharpest turnaround came from MOL's Makori Deep field in Karak, where oil output jumped to 0.77 million barrels in 2025-26 from just 0.01 million barrels in 2024-25, after having produced 0.08 million barrels in 2023-24.

By contrast, OGDCL's Bettani field in Lakki Marwat saw oil production slip to 0.23 million barrels from 0.30 million barrels a year earlier, continuing a decline from 0.34 million barrels in 2023-24.

MOL's Manzalai field in Karak also posted lower output at 0.01 million barrels, down from 0.03 million barrels in 2024-25 and 0.04 million barrels in 2023-24.

A similar pattern held for gas. Nashpa remained the top gas producer, with volumes rising to 33,152.48 million cubic feet from 27,121.58 million cubic feet in 2024-25.

Makori East held its position as the second-largest gas producer at 25,175.41 million cubic feet, marginally above the 25,130.91 million cubic feet recorded a year earlier but below the 28,647.26 million cubic feet posted in 2023-24.

Makori Deep again registered the steepest gain, with gas production surging to 8,695.09 million cubic feet in 2025-26 from just 115.09 million cubic feet in 2024-25, compared with 912.74 million cubic feet in 2023-24.

Bettani's gas output fell to 3,305.05 million cubic feet from 4,367.47 million cubic feet, while Manzalai's output dropped to 1,798.29 million cubic feet from 3,530.40 million cubic feet.

Despite the year-on-year recovery, combined output from the five fields in 2025-26 remained below 2023-24 levels, when they had produced 7.16 million barrels of oil and 74,852.08 million cubic feet of gas.

The data indicates that this year's recovery was driven mainly by Makori Deep and Nashpa, even as Bettani and Manzalai continued to decline and Makori East stayed broadly flat in gas output despite a slight dip in oil production.
