Weekly SPI Increases by 1.23 Percent

Aug 09, 2019 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 1.23% during the week ended Aug 08, 2019 while the SPI increased by 17.76% compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 270.31 compared to 267.02 on Aug 01, 2019 while the index was recorded at 229.55 a year ago, on Aug 09, 2018

Out of the 53 monitored items, the average price of 25 items increased, 3 items decreased whereas 25 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 1.1% and 1.43%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 1.43% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 1.1%.

On an yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 14.46% and 20.68%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 14.46% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 20.68%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.1878 per 50 kg bag which is 0.37% lower than last week’s price and 13.13% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, average Cement price was recorded at Rs.581 per 50 kg bag, which is 1.02% lower than the previous week and 0% lower than prices last year.
