Weekly SPI inches down by 0.07%

Weekly inflation increases by 0.11%

July 21, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group decreased by 0.07% during the week ended July 20, 2023, while the SPI increased by 29.16% compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 258.45 compared to 258.63 on July 13, 2023, while the index was recorded at 200.10 a year ago, on July 21, 2022.

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 30 items increased, 9 items decreased whereas 12 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed a mixed trend with SPI ranging between -0.28% and 0.51%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.51% while the highest income group recorded a decrease of 0.28%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 29.89% and 31.23%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 29.9% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 29.89%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.3366 per 50 kg bag which is 2.87% higher than last week’s price and 42.15% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, average Cement price was recorded at Rs.1142 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.26% lower than the previous week and 8.97% higher than prices last year.
