Trade deficit for October shrinks by 2.36% YoY

November 9, 2018 (MLN): Trade deficit in October 2018 has improved by 2.4% as compared to October 2017. However, when laid aside prior month’s figures, the deficit has worsened by 8.7%, as per official trade data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Exports for the month of October rose by 1.17% YoY to $1.9 billion, whereas imports fell by 1% YoY to $4.84 billion. On the other hand, October exports increased by 10% MoM, while Imports increased by 9.3% MoM.

During the quarter, July-Oct, exports showed an improvement of 3.5% YoY as it increased to $7.3 billion. On the other hand, imports showed marginal growth of 0.06% as well, being recorded at $19.1 billion, during the quarter.

Consequently, trade deficit for July-Oct narrowed by 1.97% YoY to $11.8 billion.
