Third International Wind Energy Summit to be held in Karachi

September 12, 2018: The Third Int'l Wind Energy Summit under the aegis of the Energy Update will be held at a hotel in Karachi on 11th October, 2018 to ensure the development of the wind energy sector and attract investments for it.

The summit will be attended by experts of the energy sector, relevant senior government officials, and representatives of the concerned national and international companies.

The announcement to this effect was made by chairman organizing committee Naeem Qureshi while speaking at a meeting of the relevant stakeholders held under the aegis of Energy Update.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Qureshi said that the Energy Update had been successfully holding this moot for the last two years as the event was aimed at ensuring availability of electricity in the country on an inexpensive and environment friendly basis.

He said that the moot was being organized this year to ensure development of the wind energy sector, attract investment for it, and also to discuss various issues and challenges related to the renewable energy arena.

It was informed on the occasion that the conference was being organized in collaboration with the Alternative Energy Development Board, Energy Department of Sindh Government, German Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Pakistan Wind Energy Association as being the partner organizations.  

Additional Chief Secretary of Sindh Energy Department Dr. Tanveer A Qureshi, who also spoke on the occasion, said that present government had always undertaken projects to generate electricity on inexpensive and environment friendly basis while giving top priority to all such initiatives in the energy sector.

So far 20 wind energy projects have been establish in Sindh that have started power generation. He said that Sindh government’s Energy Department would fully support the upcoming Wind Energy moot in Karachi next month. He also said that the upcoming moot would give an ample opportunity for its participants to discuss in detail issues related to latest technology, challenges, and cooperation required from the federal institutions for attracting further investment for the renewable energy sector of the province.

The additional chief secretary said that Sindh had been blessed with abundant resources to generate electricity through means of alternative energy.

The meeting discussed in detail various suggestions regarding the agenda for different sessions of the upcoming wind energy conference.

The conference will surely be a success with support of all these supporting partners, said Mr. Qureshi.

The summit is expected to be addressed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Energy Minister, concerned provincial government ministers, senior government officials, energy sector experts, prospective investors, and representatives of the concerned local and multi-national companies in the power sector.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Director Alternative Energy of Sindh Energy Department Engineer Mehfooz A Qazi, Irfan Ahmed, Adnan Tapal, Gul Hassan Bhutto, Shahab Qadir and others.
