SC gives OGDCL last chance to resolve restoration of pension ratio, commutation factor matter

Aug 21, 2019: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Managing Director (MD) Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) to resolve the issue of restoration of pension ratio and commutation factor of retired employees .

A two-member SC bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the court is giving last chance to OGDCL to resolve the matter.

The counsel for the employees said that his clients were being given forty percent amount as pension out of retirement amount. He said that according to the government policy, out of this amount, the retired employees would get fifty percent amount as pension and remaining fifty percent would be paid to the retired employee.

The counsel for OGDCL said that if ratio of pension is changed then recovery would have to be made from the lower cadre employees.

He said that only 53 retired employees would get benefit from change of ratio. He said that 2526 employees retired from OGDCL during the year 2002 to 2012 and OGDCL would have to made recovery from 334 employees. Many retired employees have died, he added.

He said that if court permits, the matter can be presented before OGDCL board.

The court directed the MD OGDCL to resolve the matter till next date of hearing and adjourned hearing of the case for two weeks.
