Sale of passenger cars show a massive growth of 44.1% YoY in January

February 11, 2021 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of January 2021 was recorded at 14,543 units against a total production of 13,826 units, showing a growth of 29.3% as compared to the 11,247 units sold in December 2020, and 44.1% as compared to 10,095 units sold in January 2020.

The cumulative sales for 7MFY21 amounted to 81,569 units, which is nearly 17.9% higher than 69,189 units sold in the same period of last year.

According to a monthly report released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (PAMA), the highest volumetric sales during the month were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category’ at 6,944 units, i.e. 43.5% higher as compared to the previous month.

Within this category, Toyota Yaris made the highest sales at 2,992 units, ultimately regaining its ruling spot.  Honda Cars took the second lead for selling 2,063 units during the month, followed by Toyota Corolla and Suzuki Swift which sold 1,525 and 364 units, respectively.

The 'Below 1000 cc' category witnessed the second-highest number of sales at 4,813 units, i.e. higher by 35.6% as compared to the previous month. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded a sale of 3,827 units, whereas Suzuki Bolan saw a sale of only 986 units.

On the contrary, the ‘1000cc’ category witnessed a sale of 2,786 units, which is merely 2.6% lower as compared to the previous month. Within this segment, Suzuki Cultus sold 1,470 units while Suzuki WagonR sold 1,316 units. 

The total number of trucks sold during the month under review stood at 290 units, showing a decrease of 0.3% against the 291 units sold in the previous month and 26.2% as compared to the 393 units sold in the same month of last year. Isuzu once again emerged as the best-selling truck, with sales of 123 units, while HINO, MASTER, and JAC made sales of 70, 63, and 34 units, respectively.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 73 units, which signifies an increase of 43.1% as compared to 51 units sold in both last month as well as same month of last year. Within this segment, MASTER made the maximum sales at 58 units, while HINO and ISUZU took the second and third spot by selling 13 and 2 units, respectively.
