PSX making testament to strides: Chairman SECP

February 3, 2022 (MLN): While congratulating the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on winning the best Islamic Stock Exchange Award 2021 presented by Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA), Aamir Khan, Chairman, the Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) said that it is a testament to the strides PSX is making, especially in catering to the needs of Shariah-compliant investors and issuers.

It is very inspiring to note that through the diligent and concerted efforts by all stakeholders, we have achieved several historic firsts and notable landmarks, including setting up of dedicated All Share Islamic Index at PSX, rise in issuances of Sukuks by the Government and private sector alike, the launch of first Shariah-compliant ETF, and introduction of share Murabaha financing, he added.

He was of the view that the ongoing work related to separate Shariah-compliant trading counter will further promote activity in this key segment of the capital market. These developments showcase the Pakistani capital market's focus on inclusive efforts towards Shariah-compliant investors.

The SECP, on its part, has been at the forefront to provide proactive support and guidance for the facilitation and growth of Shariah-compliant financial products in Pakistan, he noted.
