February 18, 2022 (MLN): Snapping a two-day losing streak, the capital market on Friday witnessed a bullish spell as the benchmark KSE-100 Index touched an intraday high of 45,706.29 while accumulating 234.77 points to settle the session at the 45,675.87 mark.

However, investors remained cautious during the early hours of the trade on the back of a decline in Pakistan’s foreign direct investment (FDI) which has dropped to $110 million in January 2022, down by 50% MoM compared to December 2021. 

Meanwhile, the falling Pakistani rupee (PKR) which has depreciated by 47 paisa to settle the week’s trade at 175.86 per USD also dented investors' confidence. 

Of the 93 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 63 closed up 26 closed down, while 4 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 113.63 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Commercial Banks with 47 points, Fertilizer with 36 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 34 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 32 points and Cement with 28 points.

The most points added to the index was by EFERT which contributed 28 points followed by OGDC with 23 points, UBL with 22 points, PPL with 19 points and SNGP with 18 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Tobacco with 15 points, Automobile Assembler with 5 points, Textile Composite with 3 points and Insurance with 1 point.

The most points taken off the index was by PAKT which stripped the index of 15 points followed by MARI with 12 points, MTL with 6 points, FATIMA with 6 points and KTML with 4 points.

All share volume increased by 41.19 million to 194.05 million shares. Market cap increased by Rs26.86 billion.

Total companies traded were 333 compared to 348 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 179 closed up, 131 closed down while 23 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 12,357 to 66,579.

Value Traded decreased by 0.46 billion to Rs4.31 billion
