October 23, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Monday's trading session at 51,070.83 showing an increase of 338.96 points or 0.67%.

The index remained positive throughout the session showing an intraday high of 51,419.87 (+688.00) and a low of 50,924.38 (+192.51) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 188.079 million shares.

To note, the KSE-100 index on Friday recorded the highest weekly close since May 22, 2017, the same week when the index reached its all-time high of 53,127.

The stronger Pakistani Rupee (PKR) along with the improved economic outlook continues to boost the local bourse.

The current account deficit for September 2023 shrank significantly by 95.1% MoM to stand at just $8 million compared to the deficit of $164m in August 2023.

Moreover, on a cumulative basis, the current account deficit in the first quarter of FY24 was recorded at $947m, showing a significant improvement of 58.06% YoY when compared to the deficit of $2.26bn in 1QFY23.

Of the 100 index companies 49 closed up, 36 closed down, 3 were unchanged, while 12 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 177.55, Fertilizer with 75.88, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 37.79, Pharmaceuticals with 28.85, and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 21.17 points.

Companies adding points to the index were OGDC with 102.97, PPL with 52.9, FFC with 52.09, EFERT with 46.7, and THALL with 21.17 points.

KSE-100 Index was let down by Food & Personal Care Products with 23.16, Technology & Communication with 18.73, Engineering with 18.25, Refinery with 10.23, and Leather & Tanneries with 3.56 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were UNITY with 22.03, ENGRO with 20.77, SYS with 14, BAFL with 12.89 and UBL with 11.08 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 33,918.97 with a net gain of 229.95 points.

Total market volume was 364.071 million shares compared to 430.053 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs15.93 billion showing an increase of Rs1.32bn.

There were 187,776 trades reported in 350 companies with 188 closing up, 145 closing down and 17 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 9,618 points or 23.2% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 10,650 points, equivalent to 26.35% in the KSE-100.
