PSX Closing Bell: No Pain, No Gain

July 31, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 77,886.98, showing a decrease of 741.82 points or 0.94%.

The index traded in a range of 1,341.65 points showing an intraday high of 79,151.81 (+523.01) and a low of 77,810.16 (-818.64) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 112.54 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 24 closed up, 70 closed down, while 6 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were HABSM (-5.96%), THALL (-4.13%), SEARL (-4.10%), FCCL (-3.98%), and KOHC (-3.80%).

On the other hand, top gainers were NCPL (+4.37%), FATIMA (+3.79%), BNWM (+3.68%), PAKT (+2.22%), and YOUW (+1.97%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were UBL (-87.73pts), SYS (-70.26pts), LUCK (-67.72pts), OGDC (-49.62pts), and POL (-45.89pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were FFC (+38.10pts), FATIMA (+19.64pts), ENGRO (+16.14pts), PAKT (+8.47pts), and NESTLE (+8.09pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-195.70pts), Cement (-162.74pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-129.50pts), Technology & Communication (-96.37pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (-43.10pts).

While the index was supported by Fertilizer (+75.44pts), Tobacco (+8.47pts), Property (+2.95pts), Insurance (+2.14pts), and Modarabas (+0.32pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 49,473.46 with a net loss of 418.91 points or 0.84%.

Total market volume was 382.60 million shares compared to 313.09m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs14.64 billion showing a decrease of Rs2.98bn.

There were 192,124 trades reported in 442 companies with 118 closing up, 254 closing down, and 70 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 558 points or 0.71% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 15,436 points, equivalent to 24.72%.
