Finance Minister, NBP president discuss banking sector's role in economic priorities

October 02, 2026 (MLN): Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Imran Sarwar discussed the role of the banking sector in supporting the country's financial and economic priorities, with the NBP chief briefing the minister on the bank's work on women's financial inclusion, digital transformation and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The minister visited NBP's head office in Karachi, where he congratulated Imran Sarwar on his appointment and wished him success in the new role, said a press release issued.

NBP Chairman Naved A. Khan was also present at the meeting.

The NBP president apprised the minister of the bank's initiatives and performance, including efforts to promote women's economic participation, accelerate digital transformation and back SMEs.

He also updated him on steps to improve customer services and facilities.

The meeting covered matters relating to the bank as well as broader issues facing the financial sector.

The federal government appointed Imran Sarwar as NBP president and CEO for three years, with immediate effect, under a Finance Division notification dated September 3.
