January 23, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index on Monday gained 35.61 points (0.09% DoD) to settle at 38,443.59 level.

Throughout the day market remained dull as no buying activity was witnessed because investors were cautious about the policy rate announcement today.

To reign, the persistently increasing inflationary pressure, on Monday State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) raised the policy rate by 100 basis points to 17%.

By the session’s end, the total volumes of the KSE-100 index stood at 38.41mn shares, decreased by 25.5% DoD from 51.56mn shares traded last week on Friday.

The KSE-100 index made an intraday high of 38,553.12 and an intraday low of 38,135.53 during the day.

Out of 100, shares of 87 companies were traded on Monday, of which 38 registered an increase, 48 recorded a fall, and one remained unchanged.

In terms of sectors, most of the positive contributions came from oil & gas exploration, cement, technology, power gencos, and sugar & Allied industries which cumulatively added 178.51 points to the index tally by the day’s end.

Meanwhile, the volume leaders on the benchmark index were TRG (7.84mn), PPL (3.85mn), OGDC (3.79mn), CNERGY (2.71mn), and LOTCHEM (2.54mn).

The scrips which gained the most during the session included: KOHC (7.50%), ABOT (1.97%), MARI (0.41%), LUCK (1.37%), and POL (0.73%). On the other hand, the stocks that emerged as net losers during the day included NESTLE (2.26%), COLG (1.10%), PKGS (3.43%), HINOON (2.04%), and THALL (5.36%).
